How to calm down our Racing Mind

We wish to slow down the constant stream of thoughts arising in our mind. With 50,000 to 60,000 thoughts generated each day, many of which are negative or wasteful, makes our mind tired. That makes it hard to focus to find right words or to stay positive. Keep in mind the following things to refresh and rejuvenate your mind.

  1. Every morning thank your mind for managing everything, your body, relationships, work and your life.
  2. Nourish it with 20 min of meditation, read content that reinforce peace, compassion and happiness.
  3. Create and visualise an affirmation of how you want to be and how you want your day to be.
  4. At work, focus only on the positives in people and situations. Do not entangle with people. Withdraw from arguments and gossip. They tire your mind.
  5. Pause for one minute after every hour to relax and clean your mind of any negativity.
  6. Meditate at bedtime and resolve any issue on the mind, for a good sleep. Do this and see how your mind slows down.

The manager had a problem. He could see the immensity of his problem. He had too many thoughts tumbling away in his mind like clothes in a washing machine. At one instant, he would think about work, then he would think about some sport happening on TV, the next moment he would want to write something in Twitter or he would want to get up and walk down the corridor to his associate’s office.

These tumbling thoughts weren’t helping him. It was an unending stream. About 50,000 thoughts or even more. Most of them useless, as he realised. Focus was absent and there was no way the thoughts helped him stay positive.

Frankly, it was a commotion!

His boss, this calm lady who had weathered many a storm, saw his problem as he grappled with it.

She asked him about it one day. Was he too stressed by it? He said he was, and he had no clue how to temperate his mind. Bring in the focus in his thoughts.

She said he needed to thank his mind for managing everything for him.

He was agape. Thank? His mind?

Thank the mind, nourish it with meditation and creatively visualise your perfect day.

But she was insistent. Yes, he needed to thank his mind. Then, nourish it with a 30 minute meditation regimen. Then read content that reinforced the peace, compassion and happiness within him. Then create and visualise a day of how he wished to be and how he wished his day to be.

Focus on the doable, stay away from negative gossip and cleanse your mind every hour.

Then, at work, he needed to focus on the doable. Do only positive things with people and in situations. No argument. No gossip. Pause every hour for five minutes to cleanse your mind of any negativity that’s seeping in.

At night, meditate for five minutes to resolve any remnant issue and clean the mind of any negativity again.

Clean the mind at night too. And sleep peacefully.

Remind yourself that as a powerful being I should take care of mind with doable solutions. I shall meditate and create my own affirmation towards creating and visualising a great day. And stay far away from negativity. I shall refocus every hour. And then end the day with peace in my mind.

The manager prospered, and the boss marvelled as to how a person could improve under her tutelage. They have together landed their first $40 million contract!
